It’s a tragic love story, which ended up by Maria watching from the dunes as the flagship of her love, the Whydah, sank in the worst nor’easter in the history of the Cape. Another version of the story says that Maria has sold her soul to the Devil, who made her a witch. She caused the storm that sunk the boat of Black Sam Bellamy, The Prince of Pirates, one of the most infamous pirates of his day.
